Step 1: View the Access Window
The Access program window consists of a title bar, a menu bar, a Database toolbar, and a status bar. Each of these elements works the same as it does in the other Office programs.
Step 2: Use the Program Window Controls
The program window includes controls for resizing and closing the window. When maximized, the Restore button is displayed in the set of buttons in the top right corner of the window's screen. If your program window isn't maximized, click its Maximize button. To minimize the program window to a button on the Windows taskbar, click the Minimize button.

Step 3: Use the Database Window
When the Database window is maximized or shown at its default size, you will notice it has a bar, called the Objects bar, that organizes the elements of your database file. Click an object to see its contents. To open any item in the Database window list box, double-click the item's name.
Step 4: Minimize and Maximize
When you're using different parts of your database, the Database window is often minimized onscreen. To restore the window to its default size, click the Restore button. To maximize it, click its Maximize button. To minimize the window again, click its Minimize button. To close the database file completely, click the Close button.
Step 5: The Database Buttons
The Database window has a toolbar of buttons. Click the Open button to open the selected item (or double-click the item's name). Click the Design button to open the selected item in Design view. Click the New button to start a new item in your database.
Step 6: Close Feature Windows
Every object you open in your database file-whether it's a table or a Web page-will appear as its own window in the Access program window. Like the Database window, each feature window has its own set of controls for resizing or closing the window. To close a window, click its Close button.
